Outreach is an important aspect of the Garcia-Bosch lab. Students in our lab mentor undergraduate students every year as well as local high school students. This past year graduate student Rachel Trammell was contacted by a local elementary school (Green Elementary in Allen, Tx) to provide demonstrations to roughly 103 fifth graders. She gathered several other graduate students to help in this great opportunity to explore and provide demonstrations to show how exciting chemistry is in everyday activities! Demonstrations ranged from showing students fluorescence, color changing equilibrium reactions, exothermic reactions, to providing liquid nitrogen ice cream!
