Longzhu won permission to place the sculpture in the Carnegie Mellon ArtPark along Forbes Avenue in Oakland.  Bier was Shen's faculty sponsor for the art project with the goal to bring awareness to climate change. The site is being developed to educate students, teachers, and researchers about mass spectrometry, using case studies and 'virtual' mass spectrometers to achieve this goal.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_section_4 et_pb_section et_section_regular et_block_section\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_3 et_pb_row et_block_row\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column_6 et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_2 et_block_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_8 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><br \/>\n<h3>Remote Control of 'Real' Mass Spectrometers<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_9 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><p>We are developing new teaching methods by operating a mass spectrometer from a class room, \"remotely\". This teaching methodology was first used in Chemistry Lab IV in 1999 with real-time video and is used in Chemistry 09-543: Mass Spectrometry: Fundamentals, Techniques and Applications and in the Center for Molecular Analysis to training large groups of students.
